Fence sitter

One foot in and one foot out,

Beating around the bush,

Sitting on a fence is all

cowardice worthy of impalement

It’s daunting, I know. For some people with legitimate conditions it’s mortifying.

Fear, is consuming for many people. What removes fear?

I’m not pretending to know everyone’s situation. My own personal experiences have been that knowledge above all is the remover of fear. Knowledge of and in yourself. Knowledge of your inner workings, knowledge of humankind, knowledge of the earth you live on, knowledge of your Maker, knowledge of fighting arts, knowledge of arts in general, knowledge of language, knowledge of the very edge of your temperament before you turn into a savage and so much more.

With all that knowledge you build a solid foundation of conviction and abilities and can approach problems with clarity, focus and determination.

Some people are too lazy to put forth the effort needed for one or all of these types of knowledge and they remain in their state, looking for a pill that will assist, a diagnosis that will comfort, a group or circle of people that will comfort and that’s fine if you wish to function that way, but some of us want to draw the elixir of life out from its roots, from its nucleus and keep it in a vial around our  necks.

We won’t settle for mediocre, we want the extremes. We want to be armed all the time, dancing the Muhammad Ali shuffle around our foes, our woes, and always on our toes.

Nightwriter – 19

nightwrighter series 19

The spectre of the night is there to keep cowards from finding her.

If you’re not up to the task, don’t fake it, she’ll catch you out and end up your haunting. If you’re man enough she’ll reward you with intimacy beyond your capacity until your return to her is only so she can contain you.

Nightwriter – 18

nightwrighter series 18

If you want to be a bearer of light,

there is only one way,

you must embrace in the night.

Sages, saints, gnostics, poets, writers, scholars and philosophers. They know the secret. The night contains a solitude that cannot be replicated.

What you embrace is your choice, providing the object of desire is truth. Some embrace God, some embrace their lovers, some embrace their children cradled in their arms, others embrace the night itself………..it’s there for the taking.

Black is beautiful

I’d rather be the black sheep
Amongst white conformity
I’m content to be beyond the black stump
Than to be bound by inner society

Have a black mark against my name
Than to be false notoriety
And to be Ceylon black tea
Rather than fruity varieties

I’m happy to turn black and blue
Devoted to my letter and prose
Be as black as the devil in the black of night
But able to curl your toes

I’ll be black eyed, black listed, your secret black book
Happy to be black faced, black marked
Black body floating in the brook

Most of all I’m happy to be
A blacksmith of words and soul
To stain your existence with black ink
Turn your white life to black gold
